Planetary Science

One of my greatest passions is planetary science. The shear enormity of both the subject and the objects it studies is inspiring and challenging. I hope, by creating educational resources, data visualizations, and related art, I can share a sense of wonder and generate excitement in learning about our universe. The following are personal projects, some of which are related to my current planetary science research.

NASA's Artemis Missions
WE ARE GOING BACK TO THE MOON
That's right! It's not just another Apollo either. During LPSC this year, they made sure to emphasize "sustainable" as a keyword for the future of human presence in space. Artemis definitely deserves its own set of posters and popular hype, so I made this incorporating the newly revealed spacesuit from Axiom and the Artemis mission logo. Artemis III will be the first mission in decades to land people on the Moon, and will include the first woman and person of color. This truly marks a new era of space exploration.

Artemis South Pole Potential Landing Zones
WORK IN PROGRESS
NASA currently has 13 landing zones selected, each with its own potential benefits and hazards. The South Pole is a complex region with a unique lighting situation that makes exploration difficult but also creates permanently shadowed regions that could contain large amounts of water ice. This in-progress animation will provide an overview of the sites and outline the benefits of landing in the South Pole.

Lunar Irregular Mare Patches
MYSTERIOUSLY "YOUNG" FEATURES
The largest research project I have been a part of involves the formation of these unusually young-looking features that are likely volcanic in origin. However, if there has been volcanism as recently as current dating techniques suggest, then we would have to rethink the formation of the Earth-Moon system and our understanding of geophysics. These animations were created using actual topographic data to reveal one of the most alien looking geologic formations in the Solar System!

Venus - Our Overheated Sister
UPCOMING MISSIONS AND NEW DISCOVERIES
Venus is an incredible place to study and is going to be the target of multiple missions in the coming decade (after several delays). Additionally, it was just confirmed that there is active volcanism on the planet's surface! This illustration was created last year and so the information is out of date. However, I have an update planned as well as a few other animations/illustrations.
